Eric Andronaco: An IDA Success Story

Eric Andronaco, a 25-year-old single man, joined one of Connecticut’s IDA programs in
September2001. A life-long resident of Norwalk, Eric graduated from Brian McMahon High
School and had taken several courses at Norwalk Community College. Living with his family
at the time, Eric worked oddjobs to make ends meet.

Eric’s lifelong passion was for the visual arts. He had dreamed ofbeing an artist since
childhood, but as a young man still lacked any notion of how he could transform that dream
into a reality. Whenever he had a spare minute, he would paint—portraits and abstracts,
usually in oils. He had even managed to show some ofhis work in a local show. What he
lacked was the opportunity and practical skills necessary to turn his talent into a viable
career.

When Ericjoined his IDA program, he knew what he wanted to save for: tuition to attend the
Pratt Institute and get his degree in art. After attending the financial education classes and
saving diligently over a period of three years, he was able through the program to match
his $4,000 in personal savings with an additional 54,000. Last August, Eric enrolled at Pratt
and is now studying illustrative art. “Eric lives and breathes art,” says Janet Williams, his
IDA Program Manager. “His art is inspiring. One day I expect we will all know the name of
Eric Andronaco.”

There are hundreds of success stories just like Eric’s, with hundreds more to follow in the
coming months and years.
