| Ladies Treating Alcohol Dependency Group (TAD) |
On Thursday April 26, 2007, the Alternative Incarceration
Center’s (AIC) Ladies Treating Alcohol Dependency
Group (TAD) went on a field trip to the SONO Baking
Company in South Norwalk, Connecticut. Mary Ann
Gardner, the Intervention Specialist at AIC, was
instrumental in arranging the field trip. Patti Behzad
Manager of the SONO Baking Company was outstanding
and made this event special.
According to Ms. Gardner, the objective of the field trip was
to afford the ladies the opportunity to use recently learned
intra and inter personal skills, which they had been working
on for the last six weeks. It was also an opportunity for the
ladies to learn new pleasant activities through cake
decoration.
The women in the group {Vicki Nirschel; Felicia Paulk;
Jazmin Claudio; Kris Healy, and Yashira Cruz} and
everyone from the manager to the pastry chefs really made
the field trip a success! The women had a great time learning
how to decorate cupcakes using tools from the bakeshop.
Larry Langhorn, Director of NEON’s Non-Residential
Criminal Justice Programs also attended the field trip and
videotaped the entire outing and encouraged the ladies to
enjoy the outing. Ms. Gardner was so proud of her ladies in
the way the conducted themselves, as she could see first
hand that her efforts to be creative with the field trip really
meant a lot to the women. Channel 12 News interviewed and
featured the ladies in a segment on cable 12 which aired for
two days. This was an inspiration for the ladies and has
inspired them to try new things and build confidence.
