NEON’s  “Coming to the Stage” program, offers Campers Hands-on Experience in Media Arts

Children at NEON’s Summer camp participating in the “Coming to the Stage” program this year were asked to think about heroes they encounter in their everyday lives.  They then expressed their perception of who their heroes are through dance, songs, writing stories and acting scenes to produce an informational public service announcement.

Children who had never been passionate about reading and writing in the classroom were excited to develop those skills through hands-on work on the project, as they learned about the art of photography, videography and writing.

The campers with their counselors learned about the many media tools that can be used to tell stories as they discovered and developed their personal talents. For many campers , the program opened doors to new worlds of possibilities for future careers in the media arts, such as video production, lighting and sound, screen writing, set design and costume making.
